Traditional fondue with gorgonzola cheese. From Switzerland. What is Fondue? French for melted, Fondue is a traditional Swiss dish of melted cheese, wine and seasonings served family style in a special heated pot called a caquelon or fondue pot. Dating back to 18th-century Switzerland, the discovery of fondue is credited to herdsman in the Valais and Gruyere alpine regions who enjoyed dipping heart chunks of local bread into melted cheese. Pasteurized. Contains alcohol. Product of Switzerland.
Ingredients
Swiss and Gorgonzola Cheeses (Cultured Cow's Milk, Salt, Enzymes), White Wine, Water, Potato Starch, Kirsch Brandy, Salt, Sodium Phosphate, Sodium Citrate, Spices, Locust Bean Gum.
Directions
Keep refrigerated. Easy to prepare and simply delicious! 1. Prepare the bread cubes. 2. Cut open the bag. 3. Pour contents of the bag into an enameled cast iron pan or caquelon (fondue pot). 4. Bring Fondue to a quick boil on the stove while stirring continuously until smooth. 5. To serve, place the caquelon on the fondue burner so that the cheese continues to cook evenly. Skewer bread cubes or other side dishes (see Dipping Options) with a fork and dip into the fondue. Stir evenly so that the fondue stays thick and smooth. Enjoy! Caution: When product is prepared, cheese, fondue, fondue pot or other heating source will be hot and may cause burns or other serious injury or damage to any body part or object it contacts. Do not microwave. Beverages: Enjoy a chilled dry white wine, such as Riesling; Serve sparkling apple cider as a non-alcoholic option; Hot tea makes a great partner. Dipping Options: Traditionally crusty 1 inch cubes of bread or baguettes are used for dipping, but try these additional suggestions for fun and tasty alternatives: Cubed cooked ham or turkey; Grilled beef, chicken or vegetables; Roasted mushrooms; Baby carrots; Cherry tomatoes; Boiled new potatoes; Chunks of apples and pears; Red and green grapes; Boiled shrimp; Steamed broccoli or cauliflower florets.
