Quinta Sardonia Sardón Vineyards are located at 1,600 feet and less than 400M from the border of DO Ribera del Duero. The vines are between 25 and 120 years old. Sardón comprises of 90-95% Tempranillo, blended with a 5-10% mix of Garnacha Tinta, Syrah, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and/or Albillo in any given vintage. Varieties grown in the same soil type are often co-fermented and extraction is kept to a minimum, to preserve freshness. Wine is partially whole-cluster fermented, only wild yeast strains are used and over 20 micro-fermentations are performed each year. The wine is aged for 12 months in neutral French oak barrels, 5,000-liter foudres, concrete eggs and small stainless-steel tanks. Sardón is fresh, floral and light on the nose with pronounced notes of raspberries and other red forest fruit. The 2019 vintage received 92 points from James Suckling.
