Siggis Yogurt, Strained Whole Milk, Lactose Free, Icelandic Cream-Skyr, Plain, Cup/Tub At Siggi's, we make yogurts with simple, natural ingredients. Our products are based on Scandinavian dairy traditions, such as skyr, the traditional Icelandic yogurt. Our products don't contain any of those dreadful artificial sweeteners. We only use milk from farmers who do not use growth hormones like rBST. I hope you enjoy - Siggi. Why make your own yogurt? I get this question from time to time. The main reason is that I found the yogurt on the shelves in the US too sweet. I wanted subtle flavor and less sugar. I also really missed the thickness of skyr, the yogurt from my home, iceland, where skyr is as traditional as apple pie is in the States. I was mad about skyr growing up. So, I started making my own. After some gruesome trial and error, it started to taste rather delicious. We Work With Nice Farmers: We source our milk from family farms where the cows are not injected with any kind of hormones. Further, we do not use any artificial preservatives or coolings. Quite a Bit of Protein: Skyr has been a staple of the Icelandic diet for more than 1,000 years. It is a strained yogurt made from cow's milk. Traditionally, Skyr is made from the skim milk after the cream has been floated off to make butter. Like milk, regular yogurt is mostly water, but with skyr, that water is strained away. In other words, one cup of siggi's skyr requires four times more milk than a regular cup of yogurt. What remains is a protein-rich yogurt with live active cultures. Not So Much Sugar: Our plain skyr has no added sugar, and our flavoured varieties are lightly sweetened with organic agave nectar, cane sugar, or honey. I would also like to add that we do not use any artificial sweeteners like aspartame; I shudder at the mere thought. An Excellent Cooking Ingredient: Plain skyr can be used instead of cream as a base for a delicious dip and it also goes well as a side to spicy dishes such as Mexican or Indian food. It is delicious in fruit smoothies, making them thick and protein rich. Lastly, a very simple great dessert is plain skyr with walnuts and honey or agave nectar. Skyr, that's Icelandic for thick yogurt! Read more about our story on the inside. Live Active Cultures: S.thermophilus, L.delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus, B.lactis, L.acidophilus, L.delbrueckii subsp. lactis. All natural. No high fructose. Corn syrup. No aspartame. No sucralose. No stevia. No gelatin. No rBST (No significant difference has been shown between milk derived from rBST treated and non-rBST treated cows). Per Serving: 5 g total sugars; 18 g protein; 170 calories.
