Handling your pellets. If you are like Papa, and refuse to leave home without your grill, or your grill is mounted on a trailer for barbecue cook-offs, handle your pellets gently when transporting them. These small sawdust pellets are little bombs of flavor for your grill, but will break down to sawdust if tossed around or handled roughly, and no one ever won a barbecue cook-off cooking with sawdust!
Proper Storage of Papa's Pellets: Papa's Grilling Pellets are the most flavorful grilling and smoking pellets on the market today.Only top quality wood sawdust is used in making these pellets that contain no oils or binding agents. With no binding agents used to hold the pellets in shape, proper pellet storage is very important. Moisture, humidity and improper handling can break the pellets back down to their original form, pure sawdust. Store pellets indoors away from humidity. Papa suggests storing your pellets in a storage bin or other container with a tight lid. All of FEP's pellets are highly absorbent, and will absorb moisture out of the air, diminishing the flavor and affecting the way the pellets burn. If your grill is kept outside, as most are, do not leave pellets in the feeder bin of your grill for long lengths of time. Your pellets may not only lose some of their rich flavor, but may absorb enough moisture to swell and adversely affect the operation of your grill.
Warnings
Warning: All wood products produced from sawdust may product dust when broken down. Avoid breathing dust or getting any wood dust in or around your eyes. If you get wood dust in your eyes, avoid rubbing them, rinse thoroughly and consult a physician if eyes become irritated. Wood dust is a substance known to the State of California to cause cancer. Burning wood produces carbon monoxide. California Proposition 65 warns that carbon monoxide may cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. Exposure to carbon monoxide during pregnancy can affect the baby's development and cause loss of pregnancy.
