Feeding Guidelines: Recommended: Cats have sensitive stomachs. We recommend switching your cat's/kitten's food gradually over one week, mixing the previous food with gentle giants as follows: Previous cat food- gentle giants cat and kitten food: Day 1: 80% - 20%; Day 2: 70% - 30%; Day 3: 60% - 40%; Day 4: 50% - 50%; Day 5: 40% - 60%; Day 6: 30% - 70%; Day 7: 20% - 80%; Day 8: 100% Gentle Giants. We recommend that you feed your cat/kitten the same total daily amount that you have been feeding, but spread it over five or more smaller, more frequent meals. Elevate all food and water bowls to a height so that your cat doesn't have to lean down, just has to tilt his/her head down to eat and drink. Provide clean, fresh water at all times. No stress, exercise or riding in a vehicle for at least 1 hour before and 1 hour after each meal. All of gentle giants cat and kitten foods can be mixed together for added taste and variety. Adult cats: Food requirements will vary depending on breed, environment, temperature, and stress factors. Feed five or more times each day. Show cats will require additional amounts of food depending on their degree of activity and stress. Food intake should be adjusted to maintain optimum body weight. Gestating/lactating females: Gestating/lactating females should be free fed. Generally, gestating/lactating females will require up to two times the amount of food designated for adult cats. Kittens: Kittens may begin eating gentle giant's classic quality of life feast cat and kitten food at approximately four weeks of age. Introduce dry food to kittens by moistening with warm water. Kittens will consume food eight times a day until six months of age, then five or more times a day thereafter. If feeding dry only, free feed to kittens. The portions below are recommendations only, and your cat/kitten may need more or less food to maintain proper weight requirements may vary depending upon breed, temperament, environment, season and other possible stress factors. Start by feeding the same total daily amount that you have been feeding and then adjust as needed and consult us or your veterinarian if unsure. We recommend that you maintain a program of regular visits to your veterinarian. Daily portions are based upon a standard 8 oz. Measuring cups. Weight: 0- 5 lbs: Daily portion: 1/4 - 1/2; Weight: 5-10 lbs: Daily portion: 1/2 - 1. Weight: 10 - 15 lbs: Daily portion: 1 - 1-1/2; Weight: Over 15 lbs: Daily portion: Add 1/2 cup for each 2 lbs. of body weight.
