Montiano is made from estate-grown vines that were planted over thirty years ago from clones given to Riccardo Cotarella by a renowned grape grower from Sant Emilion, during a research trip to France with Robert Parker. It exemplifies the family's ongoing pursuit of world-class wines. Rigorous selections at every step, from vineyard to cellar, have made this the iconic offering from Famiglia Cotarella. Only the best clusters from the finest, low-yielding vineyard blocks are hand-harvested and taken to the estate within hours of picking. Grape selection in incredibly rigorous both in the vineyard and the winery, where only the most impeccable berries are placed into small, truncoconic tanks for a controlled-temperature fermentation and extended maceration on the skins. Grapes are manually punched down twice per day, finished wine is aged in new & 1st year French oak barrels for 12 months & left unfiltered before bottling. Round and soft on the palate with elegant aromas of fresh blueberries, hints of mulling spice and notes of wet flint, cigar box and dark chocolate. The 2019 vintage received 95 points from James Suckling and 95+ points from Robert Parker. One 750mL wine bottle of Cotarella Montiano Merlot Red Wine, 15% alcohol by volume.
• Round and soft on the palate with elegant aromas of fresh blueberries, hints of mulling spice and notes of wet flint, cigar box and dark chocolate.
• On the palate the wine is supple, full-bodied and elegant, with a lingering finish. The estate suggests serving this wine at a temperature of 18° C (64° F) to fully appreciate its elegance in a glass
• The 2019 vintage received 95 points from James Suckling and 95+ points from Robert Parker.
• The vines are planted near the village of Montefiascone, as Riccardo Cotarella felt the rocky, volcanic soil of his homeland in Lazio would be the perfect terroir for growing high-quality Merlot.
