About

Details

San Polo Rosso di Montalcino comprises 100% Sangiovese that grows organically in the estate’s Monluc vineyard, located at 450 meters above sea level. The vineyard was planted in 2000 and is south-to-southeast facing. San Polo’s Rosso is vinified in concrete tanks that were built during the construction of the winery. The tanks, which are vitrified on the inside, assist with excellent temperature stability during fermentation. Wine goes through 20 days of maceration as winemaker Riccardo Fratton seeks to produce a rich and not too tannic Rosso di Montalcino. During fermentation wine is pumped over only 1-2 times/today as being delicate with the skins is important in order to avoid green aromas. Finished wine is aged for 12 months in 20-40 hL French oak barrels and an additional six months in bottle before release. Containing aromas of fresh berries mixed with a trace of sour cherry, this wine is smooth and medium-bodied on the palate with finely balanced tannins. Traditional in style, San Polo’s Rosso di Montalcino is ideal for traditional Italian fans that seek legitimate ‘old-world’ Sangiovese wines. The 2020 version of this wine received 91 points from James Suckling. One 750mL bottle of San Polo Rosso di Montalcino Red Wine, 14% alcohol by volume.
