Glenglassaugh Torfa with its peaty, phenolic nature, is a unique scotch whisky, and is quite different to the usual style of scotch produced in the Highlands. ‘Torfa’, referring to the Old Norse word for peat, is produced using richly peated malted barley as the cereal varietal and has been matured in bourbon casks. This peaty scotch is bottled at 50% ABV, non-chill filtered and of natural colour.
One 750 mL bottle of Glenglassaugh Single Malt Scotch Whisky Torfa
Glenglassaugh is the only distillery to straddle the Highland/Speyside border, with a coastal position, resulting in taste influence from three locations the whisky matures in our beach side warehouses exposed to the north sea air, which lends it intriguing salty notes and makes some of the world's best scotch.
Despite being mothballed for over twenty years, the distillery has a history of proven maturation, with award-winning old vintages dating back to the 1960s, and an award- winning range of boutique younger whiskies, released in the years following the distillery’s reopening in 2008.
Traditional copper pot stills have been used at the Glenglassaugh distillery since 1875. The malt whisky is distilled twice; once through the ‘wash stills’ and then the ‘spirits stills’. The stills are very wide with a low fill height giving a very gentle run due to a larger surface area and allowing for a more controlled heating process which provides a sweeter spirit.
Directions
Best enjoyed neat or on the rocks.
Warnings
Government Warning: (1) According to the Surgeon General, women should not drink alcoholic beverages during pregnancy because of the risk of birth defects. (2) Consumption of alcoholic beverages impairs your ability to drive a car or operate machinery, and may cause health problems.
