Phaseolus coccineus. Warm season. 75 days. Sow after last chance of spring frost. Heirloom: Large sprays of brilliant rich red flowers contrast against deep green foliage. Attracts hummingbirds and pollinators. With such magnificent clusters of rich, red, and edible flowers, this variety is predominantly used as a flowering screen, vine, or fence cover. Little known is that this runner bean has an extremely rich, sweet flavor when picked young; can be shelled for green or dried beans when pods mature. This packet sows one large teepee or one 5-foot row. See inside for instructions on how to build a bean teepee. We are dedicated to inspiring & educating the gardener in you. That's why we've put even more helpful information inside. More info inside. No GMOs. All our seeds are untreated. www.botanicalinterests.com. Illustrated by Eve Reshetnik.
Directions
Days to Emerge: 4-10 days. Seep Depth: 1 inch. Seed Spacing: 2 seeds every 6 inches. Row Spacing: 3-4 feet. Thinning: When 1 foot tall, thin to 1 every 6 inches. When to Sow Outside: Recommended. 1 to 2 weeks after average last frost, and when soil temperature is 70-85 degrees F. Successive Sowings: Every 7 to 14 days up to 90 days before first fall frost. Note: In very hot summer areas, sow as recommended above but skip the heat of summer as daytime temperatures consistently above 90 degrees F will cause bean flowers to drop off (no bean formation). When to Start Inside: Not recommended.
