Almost every trash bag on the market is made from polyethylene. Manufacturers use this plastic because it's firm and difficult to tear. You'll find trash bags made from low-density polyethylene and high-density polyethylene. Low-density polyethylene is more flexible and harder to tear. That makes it a great choice for large trash bags that can get heavy when full. High-density polyethylene is more rigid and difficult to puncture. Trash bags made from high-density polyethylene are thinner, so they're usually more affordable.

A trash bag's ties can make lining the trash can and gathering it up when it's full easier. You ideally want trash bag ties that are can easily fit inside your trash can. When you remove the trash bag, the ties should also close the bag tight shut to prevent loose trash from escaping. Ties should also be tough enough to support a heavy trash bag without breaking.
