Muscat Grapes for Delivery or Pickup

Muscat grapes are thought to have originated in the Middle East. The name Muscat is given to one of the oldest and widely grown grapes in the world. The Ancient Greeks made wine with Muscat grapes so they have a long history that is debated to this day. Its sweet aroma and high sugar content make it a sweet grape with floral notes. Muscat grapes have become known throughout the world as wine grapes but they are also delicate and sweet, which makes them good to eat alone or as part of a recipe.

Muscat grapes come in different colors like gold, yellow, pink, red, and black, and through the years, they have been bred for different climates. Some have seeds, but there are also seedless varieties as well. Some of the grapes are round and small, while others are large and long. Muscat d'Alexandrie grapes are usually available in the springtime, while in the fall, grapes from Italy are in season. These grapes are best eaten alone and are sweet enough to replace a dessert. They can be cooked with some squash or with meat, like pork or duck. You can also stuff grapes inside a chicken for a one-pan meal or blend them to make some juice.

There's quite a bit of nutritional value in Muscat grapes including vitamins C and K. Vitamin K helps to maintain healthy bones and is important for blood clotting to help wounds heal. Vitamin C is important for connective tissue to repair, develop, and grow. Grapes also contain antioxidants that help repair free radical damage to cells. They can help reduce cholesterol, decrease blood sugar, and increase eye health. These are just a few of the health benefits that grapes provide without having to feel guilty for eating a sweet snack.

Enjoy Muscat grapes as part of a fruit salad with melons or kiwi, or use them to make a refreshing sorbet. Freeze the grapes first and place them in a food processor with one tablespoon of mint, three tablespoons of corn syrup, and a bit of lemon juice. Puree and freeze them for at least four hours. Grapes are also perfect companions for a cheeseboard.

Because of their sweetness, Muscat grapes are ideal for incorporating into desserts. Try to add some grapes to polenta cake or shortcake. Grapes can also be enjoyed with cottage cheese, yogurt, or on top of some bread and cream cheese.

The color of a Muscat grape will be shiny and bright. For instance, the green or white grapes will be golden while the red grapes are a deep red and black. The grape itself should be firm to the touch and not mushy or shriveled. 

Muscat grapes can be stored in the refrigerator in the high humidity drawer. Store them without washing because moisture decreases the shelf life of the grape. Keep the grapes in their original plastic packaging. Don't store them near other foods that release odors since the grapes will absorb them.
