Rum Delivery or Pickup

Rum is a spirit made from fermenting and then distilling molasses or sugarcane juice. The tall, grassy sugarcane plant originally came from Asia. The alcohol concentration by volume of rum can range from 20-75.5%, and many countries require rum to be aged for at least one year. It's usually made in countries with tropical climates where sugarcane grows well.

The first known mention of rum was in India in the 7th century, and it became popular in the Caribbean and Brazil in the 17th century. It was also an important part of trade in colonial America and Australia.

Rum is a popular drink with a mild, sweet flavor, and it tastes great in cocktails. It's often made with molasses, the syrupy substance left over after refining sugarcane into sugar. This category of rum is called traditional or industrial rum. Rhum Agricole or agricultural rum comes from sugarcane juice.

Molasses rums have more fruit, caramel, and vanilla flavors, and sugarcane rum is earthier. You can also try Cachaca, a Brazilian spirit made from sugarcane juice. In the United States, it's considered rum. However, it's not aged as long as other types of rum, so it might not comply with regulations in all countries.

There are a variety of types of rum available. Light, silver, or white rum has minimal flavor aside from sweetness, and distillers sometimes filter them after aging to remove color. Their milder tastes make them ideal for cocktails and mixed drinks. 

Gold or amber rum is aged longer, usually in oak barrels that once held bourbon. They have more flavor than light rums. Dark rum is brown, black, or red, and it's usually made from caramelized sugar or molasses. This type of rum also ages longer in heavily charred barrels for a stronger flavor, so it's often used for cooking.

Flavored rum is available as well. It often contains less alcohol than other types of rum, and you can drink it in a fun cocktail or neat. The flavors are infused after fermentation and distillation, and options include mango, banana, pineapple, coconut, lime, orange, peach, raspberry, cherry, strawberry, and more. Flavored rum is often light, while spiced rum is dark. Spiced rum often contains caramel, cinnamon, rosemary, anise, clove, and cardamom flavors. Over-proof or navy-strength rum has the highest alcohol content, and it's a common component in cocktails.

In the United States, rum is more popular than gin, scotch, bourbon, or tequila, so choosing the right bottle is important. The warm climate in this region means that rum ages faster in barrels than in cooler regions. This difference reduces the alcohol content of rums from warmer climates, and it gives them a milder, more complex taste.

One bottle of rum can contain parts of several different barrels, and the age on the label is the youngest rum inside. Many brands use a master blender to create the right mix of rum batches for a smooth, finished flavor.
