The Instacart buying guide to juice
Juice is a popular beverage and may also serve as an ingredient in smoothies, popsicles, cakes, salad dressings, and marinades. You can get the juice products that you need through Instacart. Instacart offers convenient same-day delivery so you can get the juices you're after quickly when you don't have time to go to the store.
What's in a label?
A study published in the American Journal of Public Health found that the images on juice packaging don't always depict what's in the bottle, so it's important to check the label to know what you're getting. The study evaluated 39 fruit punch flavored drinks. Just 45% included juice from the fruits pictured on the package, and 37% did not contain juice from any of the pictured fruits. Apple juice was the main ingredient in most of the drinks.
Choosing healthy juices
If you're interested in finding the healthiest juices for your body, consider:
- Cranberry Juice: High in vitamin C, cranberry juice is popular for its ability to prevent UTIs.
- Pomegranate Juice: This antioxidant is more powerful than green tea or red wine.
- Red Grape Juice: Red grape juice contains many flavonoids and resveratrol that make red wine good for you.
- Prune Juice: Prune juice is best known for containing a natural laxative, but it also has fiber, potassium, iron, and antioxidants.
- Orange Juice: You can get a heavy dose of Vitamin C in orange juice. Many options are fortified with Vitamin D, too.
Juice for kids
Kids love juice, and there are many benefits that they can enjoy with this beverage, including hydration, vitamins, and nutrients. However, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no more than 6oz of 100% fruit juice per day for children under 6. Those aged 7-18 should have no more than 12oz of 100% fruit juice daily.
If your child wants to drink more than the recommended allotment of juice, consider watering it down to make it last longer. You can gradually increase the water content and decrease the juice to help your child get more comfortable drinking plain water.
Young children should always drink juice from a cup rather than a bottle or sippy-cup. This is because children may lay down for bed or a nap with their cup and rest with the sugar residue from the juice on their teeth. This can lead to cavities.Â
